Barack Obama's phone call to the president of Iran Hassan Rouhani was a matter of honor, the chairman of Iran's Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday, IRIB news agency reported.

"Obama decided to talk on the phone with the president of Iran, because Rouhani refused to meet with him at the United Nations", Boroujerdi said.

Iranian MP added that the dispute between the two countries can not be resolved with a telephone call.

"The U.S. should change its attitude towards Iran and the Islamic world in general. If the nature of discourse doesn't change, it is naive to expect the improvement of relations between the two countries," Boroujerdi said.

The United States and its allies have imposed tough economic sanctions on Iran over suspicions Tehran intends to develop a nuclear capability. Iran says the program is purely peaceful.
