The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari called Iranian president Hassan Rouhani`s phone conversation with his US counterpart, Barack Obama a tactical mistake, Tasnim news portal reported.

He went on to note that phone conversations should not resume until after the United States takes practical steps.

According to Jafari, lifting sanctions against Iran, releasing Iran's assets which have being blocked in U.S. and accepting Iran's nuclear rights are among practical steps which will show United State's goodwill and honesty.

Jafari admired Rouhani`s UNGA speech, adding that, Iranian president showed that he is faithful to the principles of the Islamic revolution and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei`s policy.

Obama and Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke by phone on Friday, the highest-level contact between the two countries since the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and a sign that both sides are serious about reaching a pact on Iran's nuclear program.

Obama said both men had directed their teams to work expeditiously toward an agreement on the nuclear issue.
Iranian media outlets informed that, some 100 IRGC volunteer students protested against the position of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani demonstrated by him in New York after his arrival to Tehran on Saturday.

As president, Rouhani is the head of the government but has limited powers. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the ultimate authority in Iran with final say on domestic and foreign policy, though Rouhani says he has been given full authority to negotiate on the nuclear issue.

The United States and its allies have imposed tough economic sanctions on Iran over suspicions Tehran intends to develop a nuclear capability. Iran says the program is purely peaceful.
