Iran aluminum output hit 179,000 tons

Iran's aluminum ingot output stood at 178,939 tons in the first half of the ‎current Iranian calendar year, the IRNA News Agency ‎reported‏.‏

The amount shows 6.6 per cent increase in comparison to the same period of last year.

Some 29,632 tons of aluminium ingot were produced in Iran during the sixth calendar month (August 22 - September 22), which is 6 per cent more than the previous year.

It was earlier announced that Iran plans to increase its annual aluminum ingot production capacity up to 910,000 ‎tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic ‎Development Plan (March 2016).

According to Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Vajihollah Ja'fari, Iran's current per capita consumption of aluminum stands at 4.5 kilogram, while per capita aluminum consumption worldwide now stands at 6.5 ‎kilograms.

The official highlighted that Iran's ranking in production of aluminum has raised ‎by four steps since 2005 to stand at 22 in the world aluminum ‎output.

Ja'fari stressed that Iran plans to be 14th in the global aluminum ‎production by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).
