Iranian former Foreign Minister and advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on International Affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati has accused U.S president Barack Obama for misusing his phone talk with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, Fars news agency reported.
"Despite his positive words during the phone talk, Obama repeated "the military option on the table" statement, Velayati said, adding that these words had promotional subtext.
Negotiations can not affect the future of Iran's position in the region and international sphere as well, as its relation with the US, he said.
Velayati noted that "negotiation for negotiation" has not had a positive result and Barack Obama misused his talk with Hassan Rouhani.
"No new issues were discussed between the presidents," he underscored. "That was an ordinary phone talk. The issues which previously have been discussed via intermediates, were repeated directly during the phone talk."
Velayati also said the US has shown that it has no good will towards negotiations with Iran.
He also underlined that, according to the Iran's constitution, making decisions on the country's foreign policy is under authority of the Supreme Leader.
The U.S. President and Rouhani's phone talk is the highest-level contact between the two countries since the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and a sign that both sides are serious about reaching a pact on Iran's nuclear program.
It should be recalled that, some powers in Iran are against Rouhani's peaceful approach.
The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari called Rouhani's phone conversation with Obama, a tactical mistake. Some extremist groups protested Rouhani after his arrival to Tehran.
As President, Rouhani is the head of the government but has limited powers.
The Supreme Leader is the ultimate authority in Iran with final say on domestic and foreign policy, though Rouhani says he has been given full authority to negotiate on the country's nuclear issue.
Khamenei has stated that he trusts the diplomats of Rouhani's administration.
The United States and its allies have imposed tough economic sanctions on Iran over suspicions Tehran intends to develop a nuclear capability. Iran says the program is purely peaceful.
