Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Italian Senate Lamberto Dini will head the team which is scheduled to arrive in Tehran on January 3, Fars news Agency reported.
The Italian delegation will depart for Iran at the invitation of Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to confer with their Iranian counterparts on the further expansion of bilateral ties between the two nations, particularly in parliamentary domain.
The visit will take place after Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino traveled to Tehran on December 21 on a two-day trip at the head of a high-ranking political delegation.
Bonino was the first Italian foreign minister to visit Iran in nearly a decade.
During her stay in Tehran, the top Italian diplomat held talks with senior Iranian authorities, including President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Last week, Larijani in a meeting with the Italian foreign minister announced Tehran's readiness to improve relations with Rome in all fields.
Larijani said that energy, industries and infrastructure are potential fields for Iran and Italy cooperation.
He referred to age-old relations between Iran and Italy, and called on both governments to use their abundant capacities to broaden ties based on mutual interests.
He said that parliamentary relations play an important role in promotion of Tehran-Rome relations.
Bonino, for her part, said that Italy pays due attention to enhanced cooperation with Tehran in different issues.
