Iran's parliament speaker, Ali Larijani, will visit some African countries in the near future, Iranian MP Hossein Sheykholeslam told Trend on January 12.

The MP added that Larijani may also visit some European countries next summer or autumn.

Referring to European parliamentary delegation's recent visit to Tehran, Sheykholeslam said that the West knows that Iran is a democratic country.

"In democratic countries, the parliament has influence on the government and foreign relations, so the western countries try to establish diplomatic relations with Iranian parliament to influence the country's foreign relations," he explained.

"Nowadays, parliaments play an important role in the world's politics," Shekholeslam said.

High-ranking officials of 55 Islamic countries' parliaments will visit Tehran in February to take part in the meeting of the parliament speakers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
