Iran is one of the most independent countries in the world and does not accept any dictated decisions, advisor to the Iranian parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani on international affairs, Hossein Sheikholeslam told Trend.

"Iran will take decisions which are in line with its national interests," he added.

Referring to achievements of the Islamic Revolution during the past 35 years, he said that independence and freedom were among the first mottos of the Islamic Revolution.

"Today, more than one hundred newspapers with different viewpoints are just being published in Tehran," he added. "Different websites disseminate various points of view and opinions across the nation."

"Elections in Iran are not predictable, because results are not dictated by anyone. For example, we could not predict Mr. Rouhani might win the recent election, or Mr. Ahmadinejad might become the president. People vote in Iran freely. Debates of parliament members are broadcast live from the national radio. These prove freedom in the country."

Hassan Rouhani won the June 14 presidential elections in Iran, gathering over 50 percent of total votes.
