Russia is convinced that it is necessary to invite Iran to a conference on Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after meeting with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif, ITAR-TASS reported.
"Russia proceeds from the assumption that in any case, the Iranian side must and inevitably will be part of comprehensive efforts to resolve the Syrian problem," the minister stressed, adding that one of the topics of the talks with Zarif was the situation around Syria, "especially in the light of the forthcoming Geneva-2 conference".
"We are convinced that it is necessary to invite Iran to a conference on Syria," Lavrov stressed. "Russia's position is that we are interested in a peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis," the Russian Foreign Minister recalled. "We strive to eradicate terrorism on Syrian soil. And this position is shared by the entire international community."
