There is a plan to launch production of heavy fighters in Iran, which is awaiting its approval from the higher authorities, deputy air forces commander for coordination, Amir Nasirzadeh said, Fars news agency reported on Feb. 3.

Nasirzadeh gave an interview, timed to Feb. 8 - day of Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, and spoke of Iran's latest developments in military sphere.

He said that currently Iran is producing an upgraded version of "Qased" (Messenger) smart bombs, with increased accuracy.

"For several years already we've been manufacturing smart missiles and smart bombs, and we want to reach full potential in this sector," Nasirzadeh said. "We've also manufactured laser-guided bombs (LGB) and GPS-guided bombs, and tested them during exercises."

Nasirzadeh further said that Iran has enhanced and made some modifications to a French air-fighter "Mirage".

"We've added an external fuel tank to it, to increase flight time, and also installed additional weaponry on it, made by Iranian experts," Nasirzadeh said.

The official also said that Iran started production of new jets, named "Kovser", specifically for training of pilots, yet he didn't disclose any further details.
