Iranian officials confirmed that five border guards have gone missing in the Jakigvar area in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported.
The missing guards were last seen on Friday night. Some reports indicate that they have been kidnapped and transferred to the Pakistani side of the border.
Border officials from both Iran and Pakistan have reportedly discussed the issue in a series of meetings.
In addition, Iran has launched a rescue operation in the area.
Informed sources confirmed that there were no reports of armed conflict with Iranian border guards last night.
