Urban families in Iran spent 60 million rials (about $2500) more than rural families on the average in the past Iranian year 1391 (March 2012-March 2013), the Tasnim News Agency reported on February 9, citing data released by the Statistics Center of Iran.

Urban families in Iran spent 60 million rials (about $2500) more than rural families on the average in the past Iranian year 1391 (March 2012-March 2013), the Tasnim News Agency reported on February 9, citing data released by the Statistics Center of Iran.

An average urban family spent some 160 million rials (about $6450) in the past year, while an average rural family spent 100 million rials (about $4000) in the same year.

Costs of urban and rural families increased by 23.8 percent and 28.8 percent compared to its preceding year's figures, respectively.

The Iranian parliament (Majlis) has set the maximum salary of employees who are exempted from paying tax in the next Iranian calendar year, which begins on March 21, 2014, at 120 million rials (about $4800), the Mehr News Agency reported on February 3.

Average costs of Iranian families living in cities amount to 164.2 million rials (about $6,640) in the past Iranian calendar year, ISNA reported on January 6, citing a report published by the Statistics Center of Iran.

The figure showed a 23.8 percent rise compared to the previous year.

An urban family's monthly income reached 1.39 million rials (about $560).

Meanwhile, average costs of Iranian families living in villages amount to 108.1 million rials (about $4,376) in the past Iranian calendar year.

The figure showed a 28.8 percent rise compared to the previous year.

The statistics has been gathered from polling 18,535 urban families and 19,657 rural families.

Iran will increase salaries of civil servants by 18 percent in the next Iranian calendar year, which will begin on March 21, 2014, the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian president's deputy for planning Mohammad-Baqer Nobakht as saying on December 9, 2013.

Salaries of civil servants should be increased proportional to the inflation rate, he added.

The minimum wage of civil servants is currently around 4.87 million rials (about $196).
