Tehran is adamant about cooperation with its Persian Gulf Arab neighbors, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Feb. 16, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on Feb. 17.

"The Middle East is going through a critical situation and the formation of new alliances makes regional countries to hold regular negotiations," Amir-Abdollahian explained, adding that Iran and Qatar share numerous fields of cooperation.

Amir-Abdollanian made the remarks during a meeting with Qatar's Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Al Rumaihi in Doha.

The Qatari diplomat, for his part, said that Doha has always defended Tehran's right to seek a peaceful nuclear energy program.

Al Rumaihi went on to note that the two countries should expand ties in all sectors.

Al Rumaihi added that he will visit Tehran in the near future.
