Iranian oil refineries have started producing new by-products such as propylene, alkylate, benzene and coke which are used in different sectors of industry, the Mehr News Agency reported on February 25.

The country's oil refineries have a total capacity to refine 1.85 million barrels of crude oil and gas condensates. Once development projects currently underway inIsfahan, Bandar Abbas and the Persian Gulf Star refineries come on stream, the capacity will be increased to 2.2 mbpd.

To date, $3.5 billion plus 24 trillion rials, around $960 million has been invested in development projects in refineries.

According to Hossein Aghayan, an official with the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, Iran exported 10 billion litres of fuel oil (27.4 million litres per day) in the previous year. The figure shows that Iran has decreased fuel oil exports to six million litres per day in the current year.

Besides the aforementioned exported amount, the rest of Iran's oil products, gasoline, gas oil, fuel oil and kerosene output are being consumed domestically.

Mehr News Agency reported on December 24 that by inaugurating some new units in refineries, Iran has increased its production capacity of gasoline conforming to Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards up to 30 million litres per day, but the figure is not real.

The managing director of National Iranian Oil Refining & Distribution Company, Abbas Kazemi, said on December 24 that the country only has the capacity to produce and distribute 13 million litres of gasoline conforming to Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards. The figure is 17 million litres less than the amount that Iran's previous administration used to claim.
