Two people were killed and 148 were injured in the various incidents during the Iran's Festival of Fire, the country's media outlets reported.

The last Wednesday of the Iranian calendar year is called "Chahar Shanbe Suri," (Festival of Fire). It is also known as one of the most dangerous days of the year. Iranians traditionally jump over fires and small explosives are also employed during the celebrations.

An 8 year-old girl in the capital city of Tehran and a young man in Iran's central Nazarabad city were killed due to the explosion of hand-made grenades.

Citing the Iranian emergency sources, Iranian media outlets Iranian Asriran news portal reported that some 148 people were injured on March 18 during the ceremony, with 97 of them hospitalized.

Chief Tehran's Police, Hossein Sajediniya quoted Iranian Yjc news agency on March 17 as saying some 15-20 individuals have been arrested for selling illegally imported fireworks as well as homemade small explosives.
