Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani received Latvian visiting Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics here on Wednesday, IRNA reported.
According to the report of Majlis Media Department, in the meeting, Larijani called mutual relations ˈold with positive backgroundˈ, adding that Iranian people and government view on relations with Latvia has always been positive.
Referring to many capacities in economic, trade and cultural dields, Larijani said that economic and trade exchanges between public and private sectors in the both countries should expand and Majlis will support every kind of development with Latvia.
Given the international and regional developments, Larijani said that wrong calculations of certain countries in region and the world had made situation in some parts of the world more complicated and the European Union, by taking an independent policy can play constructive role in peaceful settlement of the conflicts.
Rinkevics called Iran as an important and powerful country in the region and world and said that our relations background returns to tens of years before and said that for expansion of ties we should use all political, parliamentary, economic and cultural capacities.
He praised Iran's positive role in settling regional crises, especially in Afghanistan and added that Latvia as the rotating chairman of the EU in the next year is very interested in Iran's positive role in solving the regional crises.
Concerning Syria, Rinkevics said dialogue and political solution are the sole way to settle existing crises and that all world and regional players should play their role in this process.
He continued that Iran's role in this process is undeniable and Tehran should continue its positive role.
Latvian foreign minister expressed pleasure with achieved agreements on Iran's nuclear issue and said that he hoped, by achieving final agreement, way of expanding communication in different fields between the EU and Iran can be paved.
