Tehran and Astana are negotiating ways to boost bilateral relations in the banking sector.

A Kazakh trade delegation met with the governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Valiollah Seif, to further the talks, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on June 3.

The delegation, which consists of 40 Kazakh officials and private sector representatives, also met with the head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Gholamhossein Shafei on June 2. The Kazakh delegation lobbied Iranian officials to increase the two countries' trade value to $5 billion.

Additionally, the parties discussed possible ways to bolster bilateral trade.

"Oil and gas, cement, petrochemical products, wheat, construction materials, and transportation represent some of the fields our countries can work on to boost bilateral ties." Shafei said.

He went on to note that expanding economic ties with neighboring countries is among the Iranian government's top priorities.

Iran is also currently negotiating with Kazakhstan over oil swap deal.
