Iran has expressed support for the Iraqi government and nation in the fight against Takfiri militants launching deadly attacks in the northern part of the country, PressTV reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced Tehran's support in a telephone conversation with his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari.

The Iranian foreign minister condemned moves by terrorists in Iraq that have lead to the death, injury and displacement of civilians.

Zarif called on the international community to support the Iraqi government in its fight against terrorism.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, thanked Zarif for Tehran's support, saying the Iraqi government and people were determined to wipe out terrorism in the country.

The two ministers also reiterated that the Takfiri militants are the enemy of the people of Iraq and stressed Iraqis' national unity against them.

The militants of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have so far captured several areas including the Nineveh provincial capital Mosul.

"Over 500,000 people in and around the city" had to flee Mosul, according to Geneva-based International Organization for Migration.
