By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

The National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) expressed readiness to cooperate with Norwegian firms in LNG transportation.

Grounds are prepared for more cooperation between Iranian and Norwegian companies following the implementation of nuclear deal, which came into force last January, Ali Akbar Safaei, managing director of the NITC, said, SHANA news agency reported Oct. 2.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Dilek Ayhan, the state secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries in Tehran.

Safaei said that the NITC is cooperating with a large number of the Norwegian firms in the fields of ship parts and equipments, insurance, ranking and classification, expressing hope that the cooperation will expand in the near future.

The Iranian official further said that the two parties can cooperate in bunkering as well.

Iran enjoys good advantage and location in this field, he added.

Ayhan, for her part, expressed Norway’s readiness for expansion of cooperation with the NITC in various sectors.

Norway is ready to cooperate with Iran in LNG projects and the LNG carrying ships.

NITC, the privatized Iranian shipping company, says it has 70 tankers including 42 very large crude carriers, known as VLCCs, after buying 20 such China-built vessels in the recent years.

Iran was forced to rely more on NITC, the former state-owned shipping company, to transport crude oil after Europe imposed sanctions on Iran and banned insurers from covering ships carrying the Iranian crude.

Under the sanctions Iran's oil export was limited to certain countries including China, India, South Korea and Turkey, which was mainly carried by the NITC fleet.
