Iran’s Imam Khomeini Airport is receiving flights from 56 countries as Thai Airways has just started flights to it, said board member and Deputy for Aviation Operations at Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) Kurosh Fattahi.

Speaking during a ceremony welcoming Thai Airways, Fattahi mentioned flights depart IKAC for 70 destinations overseas, ILNA news agency reported October 2.

Thai Airways will be operating flights between Tehran and Bangkok from now on, he noted.

Noting that in recent months many foreign companies including British Airways, Air France, and Air Astana started flights to the airport, he said in near future Air India, Korean Airline, Air Canada will also join.

“Our strategy is to make IKAC a strong bridge between us and other countries. Our objective is to revive Silk Road. All the people of the world should be able to use the services of IKAC and we are a short way from that.”

The number of international airways starting flights to Iran increased after the country’s nuclear deal with world powers.
Iran has special plans to turn IKAC into an international transport hub, with railways, special economic zones, etc. operating in the complex.
