The decision of the Committee on International Relations of the USA Congress on passing two drafts laws on recognition of the “Armenian genocide” is a “political move, not based on scientific realities”, the Prime Minister of Turkey Redjep Tayyib Erdogan stated at the news conference in New-York, Trend reports, citing the Turkish media.

The Prime Minister puts a question “What are the decisions of the states, having no relation to this issue based on?” stressing if this process is continued, holding of the return campaigns against these states is possible.

В"The decision of the Congress Committee is completely a ”political act”, not promoting the goals of strengthening the peace throughout the world “, Erdogan underlined, noting the issue is not to be based on “sentimentality”.

Meanwhile, the concern over the decision of the US Congress Committee on Foreign Relations is expressed in the official statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry on this issue. The document assesses positively the stance of the US State Department, which official stated “the decision of the US Congress Committee does not reflect the policy of Washington on the issue”.

The foreign policy department statement expresses also the hope that both drafts laws will remain at the Committee’s level and will not be discussed by the Congress extended council.

It should be noted, in case the head of the US House of Representatives Dennis Hastert does not use his “veto” right, both issues may be submitted to Congress for voting.
