Iran seeking closer ties with neighbors: President

President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that Iran is seeking further interaction and closer relations with regional countries, particularly its neighbors, IRNA reported.

In a meeting with Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Karim Massimov in Astana, Rouhani said that Iran attaches special significance to promotion of ties with Kazakhstan.

The President said that abundant cultural commonalities serve as a base for expansion of relations between Tehran and Astana.

Meanwhile, the Kazakh premier said that Kazakhstan's President had assigned him to pursue the implementation of the agreements signed by the two countries during President Rouhani and his accompanying delegation's visit to Kazakhstan.

Massimov voiced his country's willingness to boost trade with Iran and expressed hope that the inauguration of Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway track would help boost economic relations between the two countries.
