Iran and Kazakhstan have agreed to boost cooperation in the spheres of transport and occupational training.

In a meeting between Iranian labor and social welfare minister Ali Rabiei and Kazakh labor and social protection minister Tamara Duisenova in Astana, the Iranian side announced readiness to dispatch workforce to Kazakhstan and provide expert training for the country's local labor force, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on September 10.

In a separate meeting between Rabiei and Kazakh investments and development minister Asset Issekeshev, the Kazakh minister proposed the establishment of joint companies to expand rail, road, and port transit.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has described Iran as a reliable partner in the Caspian Sea region, saying the two countries must work to increase their trade exchanges, which have witnessed a decline over the past years.

"Kazakhstan sees the Islamic Republic of Iran as an important partner in the world and a good neighbor in the Caspian Sea region," Nazarbayev told a news conference with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the Kazakh capital Astana on Tuesday.

On May 25, Iranian Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Ali Tayyebnia stated that Iran and Kazakhstan have great potential to boost their annual bilateral trade to $5 billion.

Tayyebnia made the remarks in a meeting with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov on the sidelines of the 4th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Finance and Economy, which was held on May 22-23 in Astana.
