Turkmenistan is seeking to boost electricity exports to Iran.

Turkmen Vice Prime Minister Murad Artykov has proposed the Turkmen government a plan, according to which Turkmenistan will increase electricity exports to Iran, Iran's Fars news agency reported on October 5.

The Iranian embassy in Ashgabat has confirmed the report.

Iranian deputy energy minister Houshang Falahatian paid a visit to Ashgabat last week to discuss ways to boost bilateral energy ties.

In February, Turkmen Foreign Minister Reshid Meredov said Turkmenistan exported over 1.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Iran in 2013.

By investing $5 billion, Turkmenistan eyes to become an electricity exporting hub in the region by 2020.
