Iran seeks to export agricultural product with less water demand to Russia

A member of the Iranian parliament's Agricultural Commission, Abbas Papizadeh said the priority of exports to Russia will be agricultural products which use less water including vegetables, green house products as well as poultry.

Iran seeks to export products which are justified economically, the MP said, Iran 's ISNA news agency reported Oct. 27.

Papizadeh went on to add that the grounds for exporting the mentioned products will be prepared in the next one or two years.

Earlier in October Iranian agriculture minister, Mahmoud Hojjati announced the Islamic Republic's readiness to export various agricultural products especially vegetables, protein and horticultural products to Russia.

Agricultural products including fruits, fruit juice and vegetables already share over half of Iran 's exports to Russia. Tehran exported about $71 million worth of agricultural products to Russia during the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Sept. 22), according to the website of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.

Iran's total exports to Russia stood at $136.122 million during the period. The figure indicates a fall by 13.81 percent compared to the first half of last Iranian fiscal year, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

The Islamic Republic imported $341.76 million worth of goods from Russia, 4.48 percent more year on year.
