Georgia welcomes idea of importing Iranian gas

Georgia has welcomed the idea to import natural gas from Iran.

Georgian energy minister Kakha Kaladze said there are grounds for importing Iranian gas, Iran's Shana news agency reported on November 5.

On October 30, in a meeting in Tbilisi, members of the Iran-Georgia parliamentary friendship group voiced their countries willingness to do their best to pave the ground for widening and deepening of mutual cooperation in different arenas, including economy, culture, education and international relations.

Moayyed Sadr Hosseini, Chairman of the Iran-Georgia parliamentary friendship group, met with Georgian energy minister Kakha Kaladze, saying that Iran is interested in investing in the establishment of gas networks, hydroelectric power plants, and refineries in Georgia.

Kaladze, for his part, said that his country is interested in boosting cooperation with Iran in the energy sector.
