US dollar and euro rise, pound falls in Iran

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The US dollar was sold at 34,420 rials in Iran 's free market on Dec. 8, compared to 33,520 rials on Dec. 7.

Euro and pound were traded at 42,200 rials and 52,500 rials, respectively, compared to 41,600 rials and 52,530 rials on Dec. 7, Iran 's Mehr news agency reported on Dec. 8.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iran has put official rates of US dollar, euro, and pound at 26,935 rials, 33,095 rials, and 41,923 rials respectively.

During ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's second term, Iran 's rial lost its value by about four times.

Each USD was sold at 9,830 rials in 2009, but the figure reached 36,000 in mid-2013, after Hassan Rouhani replaced Ahmadinejad.
