Iran crude steel output increases by 6%

Over 14.97 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the first 11 months of current year, 6.4 percent more compared to the same period of 2013.

The country's crude steel production stood at 1.459 million metric tons in November, which indicates a 6.1 percent increase in comparison with November 2013, the World Steel Association said in its latest monthly report released Dec. 20.

The Islamic republic produced 1.375 million metric tons of steel in September 2013.

World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 131 million metric tons in November 2014, a 0.1 percent increase compared to November 2013.

The 65 countries' total crude steel output in the 11- month period was around 1.498 billion metric tons. The figure indicates a rise by 1.8 percent year on year.

The 65 countries included in the World Steel Association statistics accounted for approximately 98 percent of total world crude steel production in 2013.

Over 1.58 billion metric tons of crude steel were produced in the world in 2013.

China was the biggest crude steel producer in the world in the first eleven months of 2014 with about 748.67 million metric tons of production, followed by Japan (101.667 million metric tons), the U.S. (80.957 million metric tons), India (76.197 million metric tons), South Korea (65.324 million metric tons) and Russia (64.794 million metric tons).

Iran ranked 14th among the world's steel producers in terms of production during the period.

The country produced 1.141 million metric tons of crude steel in January, 1.26 million metric tons in February, 1.329 million metric tons in March, 1.456 million metric tons in April, 1.422 million metric tons in May, 1.408 million metric tons in June, 1.29 million metric tons in July, 1.332 million metric tons in August, 1.429 million metric tons in September and 1.444 million metric tons in October according to the report.

Iran's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which is 6.6 percent more than its preceding year. Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.

The country plans to increase its annual steel output to 55 million metric tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2015).
