Iran's gasoline consumption stood at 19.264 billion liters during the 9-month period from March 21 to Dec. 21, indicating a rise by 2 percent compared to the same period of the last year.

The average daily gasoline consumption reached 69.8 million liters during this period, 1.7 million liters less year on year, Iran's official SHANA news agency reported Dec. 27.

The country's gasoline output is currently around 62 million liters, so it needs to import the rest.

Iran's diesel oil consumption also reached 28.234 billion liters during the 9-month period, which indicates a 2-percent increase year on year.

Over 10.46 billion liters of fuel oil and 2.4 billion liters of kerosene were consumed in Iran during this period.

The country's fuel oil and kerosene consumption indicate fall by 27 percent and 10 percent, respectively during the 9-month period.

About 60.361 billion liters of liquid fuel in total were consumed in Iran during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, 3.35 billion liters less than same period of the preceding year.

Iranian Oil Ministry seeks to decrease liquid fuel consumption in the country by boosting gas consumption, particularly in power plants. Iran aimed to boost gas supply to power plants to 1,483 billion cubic feet this year to reduce gas oil and fuel oil burning in this sector.

Over 83 percent of total electricity output in Iran is generated in thermal power plants, fueled by diesel oil, fuel oil and natural gas.

The country used 1.271 trillion cubic feet of gas, as well as 28 billion liters of gas oil and fuel oil for power generation during last fiscal year, ended in March 2014.

Iran's total liquid fuel output (including gasoline, diesel oil, fuel oil and kerosene) is a little more than 265 million liters per day.
