Iranian privately-owned power plant connected to national network

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The first gas-fired unit of the Kahnouj privately-owned power plant, located in the southeastern province of Kerman, was connected to the national network.

The gas-fired unit of the power plant has a capacity to generate 162 megawatts of electricity, Iran's Fars news agency reported Dec. 29.

Once all the units of the power plant come on stream, its electricity generation capacity will increase to 484 megawatts.

The second gas-fired unit of the power plant is projected to come on stream in February and the steam unit will come on stream in December next year.

The power plant's efficiency is about 49 percent. Some €310 million will be invested in the project.

Power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually during the past 10 years.

Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.

Iran's total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatts.
