Transit flights through Iran's airspace increase by 75%

Number of international transit flights over Iran's air zone has increased by 74.8 percent during the 9th Iranian calendar month (Nov. 22- Dec 22), compared to the same period of 2013.

Deputy Civil Aviation Organization for Aeronautical Operations Ebrahim Shoushtari said 28,062 transit flights through the skies of Iran have been carried out during the period, the country's official IRIB news agency reported Dec. 29.

Shoushtari added that averagely 935 transit flights passed through Iran's airspace per day during the one-month period, meanwhile the figure stood at 535 flights per day in Nov.22-Dec. 22, 2013.

The official said that in total about 48,284 flights were carried out during the reported period, some 12,832 of which are local flights. Meanwhile the number of international flights stood at 6,560.

Iran's local flights has decreased by 4.5 percent during the one-month period compared to the same period of last year, however international flights indicate an increase by 28 percent during the reported period.

The number of international transit flights over Iran's air zone has sharply increased from mid-July following the Malaysian plane crash in Ukraine and security problems in Iraq.

The Islamic Republic has recently made 11 new air routes to meet the high demand of the passing flights.

A total of103 air routes with length of 61,776 kilometers are available in Iran's air zone.
