Iran’s imports increase by 22%

Iran imported $50.665 billion worth of goods during the first eleven months of 2014, which indicates a rise by 21.85 percent, compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Iran imported some 37.522 million metric tons of goods during that period which is 31.73 percent more compared to the first eleven months of 2013, according to the Iranian Customs Administration latest monthly report released Jan. 2.

Wheat worth $1.772 billion topped the list of Iran's imported goods with 3.5 percent share from the country's total imports' value. The Islamic Republic imported 5.11 million metric tons of wheat in the first eleven months of 2014, indicating an increase by 48.1 percent in terms of volume year on year.

Iran's wheat imports also witnessed a rise by 27.36 percent during the mentioned period compared to the first eleven months of 2013 in terms of value.

After wheat, motor vehicles with internal combustion engine worth $ 1.557 billion and rice worth $ 1.534 billion were other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic.

Tehran's rice imports have declined by 24.18 percent during the period, meanwhile the imports of motor vehicles registered a rise by 84.89 percent in terms of value compared with the first eleven months of 2013.

The three mentioned goods shared 9.6 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

The average price for each one metric ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was $1350, which is 7.5 percent less than the previous year.

The Islamic Republic's overall non-oil trade turn over stood at $81.877 billion during the first eleven months of 2014.

The figure indicates a 16.95 percent rise in comparison with the $70.01 billion trade turn over during the first eleven months of 2013.
