The Iranian oil ministry's officials will appoint a new contractor for South Pars gas field phase 11's offshore section in the near future, Seyed Morteza Elahi, and official with the Pars Oil and Gas Company said.

Iran LNG Company will most probably take the responsibility, Elahi said, Iran's Fars News Agency reported on Jan. 13.

"The phase 12 is nearly complete, and its output will reach 84 million cubic meters per day in the near future," he said.

"Phases 15 and 16 will start production of 40 million cubic meters per day in February," he added.

The official went on to note that new phases of the giant gas field are averagely 60 percent complete.

Deputy Oil Minister Emad Hosseini said on Nov. 22, 2014 that five phases of giant South Pars gas field will start production by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20).

"Once the phases come on stream, Iran's gas output will be increased by 120 million cubic meters per day," he said.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Jan. 3 that the country's gas output capacity will be increased by 100 million cubic meters in the current Iranian calendar year.

"Some of the projects have already come on stream, and the rest will be inaugurated as planned," he said.

Zanganeh said on Nov. 21 that some 44 billion cubic meters of gas will be added to the country's total output in the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 21, 2015).

The South Pars gas field, divided into 28 phases, is located in the Gulf on the common border between Iran and Qatar. It is estimated that the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensate.
