By Fatih Karimov - Trend: More than 3.25 million passengers have been transported by Iran's flag carrier Iran-Iran Air(Homa) in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, 2014.

Farhad Parvaresh, managing director of the Iran Air, said the airline has transported some 15,000 Metric tons of cargo during the 9-month period, a 34 percent rise year on year, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Jan. 20.

Homa is operating flights to 29 destinations around the world, he added.

The US-led sanctions on aircraft and spare parts exports to Iran have left the Iranian airlines saddled with not only some of the oldest fleet in the Middle East, but in the world.

Boeing and General Electric said in April that they had received export licenses from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control allowing them to sell parts for commercial aircraft to Iran under a temporary sanctions relief deal that began in January.

Iran agreed in November 2013 to curtail nuclear activities for six months from Jan. 20, 2014, in exchange for sanctions relief from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.
