Iran imports $69M worth of cigarettes

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran imported 8,800 metric tons of cigarettes, worth $69 million in the first 8 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-November 21, 2014).

Cigarette imports accounted for 0.2 percent of the country's total imports, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on Jan. 31.

Imports of cigarette rose by 23 percent in value year on year, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Turkey was the main source of importing cigarette. Meanwhile, 244 million smuggled cigarettes were confiscated in the first half of the current year, a 45 percent rise year on year.
