Iran's total liquid fuel consumption including diesel oil and fuel oil stood at 5.48 billion liters during the autumn (Sept. 22 to Dec. 21, 2014).

The figure indicates an increase by 310 million liters compared to 5.27 billion liters of total diesel oil and fuel oil consumption from the preceding autumn, the Iranian oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported Jan. 31.

Some 3.63 billion liters of diesel oil was consumed in the country during the period, 540 million liters more compared to the autumn of 2013.

The country's fuel oil consumption from Sept. 22 to Dec. 21 also stood at 2.85 billion liters, 670 million liters more year on year.

Iran's oil ministry seeks to decrease liquid fuel consumption in the country by boosting gas consumption.

In the first nine months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 22, 2014) averaged some 161 million liters of diesel oil and fuel oil consumed in the country per day. Fuel oil accounted for 59.3 million liters of the mentioned figure.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh previously said that by increasing Iran's total gas output especially from joint fields, the country's liquid fuel consumption in the industrial units and power plants will be reduced.

During the 9-month period, Iran delivered 41 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to power plants, indicating a 10.1 bcm increase, but the country had planned to deliver only 42 bcm gas to this sector until the end of current fiscal year (March 21, 2015).

Gas shortage forced Iran to burn 28 billion liters of diesel oil and fuel oil in power plants last year. According to National Iranian Gas Company's official statistics, Iran delivered 36 billion cubic meters of gas (some 100 million cubic meters per day) to power plants last year.
