Iran allocates $85M for Rasht-Qazvin highway project

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran has allocated 3 trillion rials (about $85 million) for completing the construction of Rasht-Qazvin highway in the northwest of the country.

Iran's Vice President for Planning and Strategic Supervision Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said the budget will be spent to build 11 kilometers of the highway, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Feb. 10.

Last week, the administration approved 600 billion rials (about $17 million) special budget to speed up the construction of the highway, he noted.

He added that negotiations with Chinese and Russian investors are underway for building the Rasht-Astara railway.

The Rasht-Astara (Iran)-Astara (Azerbaijan) railway is being constructed as part of the North-South international corridor.

The Iranian side completed about 80 percent of the construction of the railway. Currently, the remaining part is being constructed.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2015. Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran are involved in the Rasht-Astara railway construction.
