By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Solar panels which can generate 425 kilowatts (KW) of power have been installed across the city of Tehran.

Mohammad Hashemi, Managing Director of Tehran Power Authority, said more solar panels will be installed over the next months, Iran's IRIB reported on Feb. 14.

The solar panels have been installed at a cost of 36 billion rials (about $1.1 million), he said, adding that solar panels to generate 300KW of power have been installed at state-run organizations.

Moreover, solar panels to generate 75KW of power have been installed at schools and mosques, and the rest have been installed at Tehran Power authority's buildings, he said.

Installing the solar panels will prevent from the emission of 270,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually, he noted.

Yusef Armodeli, Managing Director of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran, said in October that Iran is planning to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity in the next five years using renewable energy sources.

The organization has comprehensive plans underway with respect to utilization of clean methods of energy supply, he added.

Power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually during the past 10 years.

Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.
