The Executive Manager for the development of South Pars 17 and 18 phases Hassan Boyeri said that the second row of the refinery phases has been made operational, IRNA news agency reported on Feb. 15.

The official said that the units will give 10 million cubic meters of sweet gas a day.

He added that it is expected that within 10 days, the gas will be supplied into the countrywide distribution network.

The first row of the refinery was commissioned in the countrywide network one month ago. Together, the two rows will ensure an output of 20 million cubic meter of sweet gas per day.

When completed, the 17th and 18th phases are aimed to produce 50 million cubic meters of gas, 80,000 barrels of gas condensate, and 400 metric tons of sulfur a day.

The project started in 2007 and the previous Iranian administration was supposed to accomplish it by 2013, but it failed to do this.

Iran's oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said that the country plans to pump up natural gas production at South Pars gas field by 100 million cubic meters per day by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2014).

South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar's territorial waters.

The gas field is estimated to hold a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world's reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
