Iran levies duty on water consumption

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The Iranian parliament approved imposing 150 rials (about 0.5 cent) per cubic meter duty on water consumption.

The national budget bill for the next Iranian fiscal year, starting on March 21, had set 100 rials as duty per cubic meter water consumption, but members of the parliament voted to increase the duty to 150 rials, Iran 's IRNA news agency reported on Feb. 18.

The duty will be added to water bills.

On Feb. 17, the parliament approved a 5 percent increase in fuel prices for the next fiscal year.

According to the approval, the administration is now authorized to raise semi-subsidized regular gasoline price from the current 7,000 rials (26 cents) a liter to 7,350 rials (26.6 cents).
