By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran has dismissed some foreign media reports about the country's meat imports from Russia.

Mehdi Khalaj, head of the Iranian Veterinary Organization, said that the country has not yet decided to import meat from its northern neighbor, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Feb. 25.

Kalaj and the assistant head of the corresponding Russian department, Alexei Alekseyenko have previously discussed the issue in Tehran.

According to RIA Novosti, the parties also discussed the issues of security of supply of products and an upcoming inspection of Iranian milk and poultry enterprises that wish to deliver their products to the Russian market.

Khalaj told Fars that a protocol has been signed by the two sides, but no deal has been reached to date.

Iran is currently seeking to import frozen chicken meat, eggs, seafood, and dairies from Russia, he noted.

Iran's Agricultural Minister Mahmoud Hojjati said in Dec. 15 that preparations have been made for exporting dairy products and other food stuff to Russia.

"The ministry will help private companies to increase their exports to Moscow," he said.

Russia has issued licenses for 18 Iranian companies to export fisheries to Moscow.
