Baku, Azerbaijan, Mar. 3

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: A Chinese company has recently restarted work to build the Tehran-Shomal freeway in Iran without naming the Chinese company, Iran's Mehr news agency reported Mar. 3

The company, which had begun the work a couple of years ago, stopped the work due to lack of funds but it resumed work ten day ago.

However, Deputy Director of Iran's Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructure Company, Hassan Ahmadi-Nouri, said on Jan. 7 that China's SPA Company was previously in charge of construction of the first section of the freeway.

The first section of the freeway to the length of 32 kilometers will come on stream in two years, he added.

Tehran-Shomal freeway is among the top priorities of Iran's Roads and Urban Development ministry.

Several contractors, including Bonyad, Khatam-ol-Anbia headquarters, and Chinese firms, have signed agreements to carry out the project over the years, but little progress was made.
