Rail transit via Iran to Central Asia up 50%

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Transit of goods via rail network from Iran to Central Asia rose 50 percent.

Mohammad Hadi Ziaeemehr, director of Khorasan Razavi Province Railways, said that more than 4.5 million metric tons of goods were transited from the province via rail network to Central Asia since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year, started on March 21, 2014, Iran's IRIB reported on March 15.

Some 2.2 million metric tons of goods had been transited from the province via rail network to Central Asia during the same period last year, he said.

Iranian Roads Maintenance Organization official Mohammad Javad Atrchian said on March 8 that over 11.2 million metric tons of goods were transited via Iran in the first eleven months of the current Iranian calendar year.

Transit of goods via the country rose 6.2 percent during the 11-month compared to the same period last year, he added.

The transited consignments mostly consisted of fuel, construction materials, home appliances, cotton and vehicles.
