By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Some $4.5 billion is needed to put the remaining lines of Tehran Metro into operation.

Habil Darvish, managing director of Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company, said that some $210 million is needed monthly to be invested in the project by the end of Iranian calendar year 1395 (March 2017), Iran's Fars news agency reported March 16.

Inaugurating the lines 6 and 7 of Tehran Metro will save $2.5 million in fuel consumption per day, he noted.

He added that 200 kilometers length of subway lines is being constructed.

Between 2 and 2.5 million Iranians use Tehran Metro every day.

Tehran Metro consists of five operational lines crisscrossing Tehran, with construction underway on two other lines.
