Iran’s annual crude steel output hits 16.8 million tons

Over 16.805 million metric tons of crude steel were produced in Iran during the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 20), 7.4 percent more compared to the preceding year.

The country's crude steel production stood at 1.321 million metric tons in twelfth Iranian calendar month of Esfand ( Feb. 20-March 20), Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) said April 19.

A major raw steel producer of Iran, Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 5.483 million metric tons of crude steel during the period, followed by the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 3.458 million metric tons, the Isfahan Foundry with 2.707 million metric tons and Hormozgan Steel Company with 1.172 million metric tons.

Iranian companies also produced 16.873 million metric tons of steel products during the last fiscal year. The figure indicates a two percent growth compared to the preceding year.

Iran's steel products output in twelfth calendar month of Esfand ( Feb. 20-March 20) stood at 1.264 million metric tons.

Iran produced 16.331 million metric tons of crude steel in 2014. The country's crude steel production reached 15.421 million metric tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than its preceding year.

Iran was the world's 15th biggest producer of steel in 2013.

The world's total crude steel output in 2014 was around 1.636 billion metric tons, which is 1.1 percent more than 2013.
