By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is in Tehran to discuss ways to use environment-friendly technology in Iranian power projects.
The Iranian Energy Ministry has proposed JICA prepare a comprehensive plan to identify, apply, and indigenize environment-friendly technologies to be used in Iran's power projects, Iran's Mehr news agency reported April 20.
To date, a framework for finalizing the plan has been defined and complementary stages will be carried out in the future. Kuhi Sato, a senior official with JICA said in October 2014 that the agency would fund $6 million to $8 million in Iranian projects annually.
Sato said the agency was in charge of implementation of a project for the protection of natural resources in Bazoft villages of Kouhrang in Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province.
Yusef Armodeli, managing director of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran said in October that Iran is planning to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity in the next five years using renewable energy sources.
The organization has comprehensive plans underway with respect to utilization of clean methods of energy supply, he added.
Iran's total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatts.
Power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually during the past 10 years. Iran is currently the biggest electricity producer in the Middle East.
