Once the sanctions against Iran are lifted Iran will have wide-range options for trading, and would be able to pick its partners based on its national interests, Iranian political expert and professor of the Tehran University Bahram Amir Ahmadian told Trend April 20.

Iran and the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) reached a nuclear framework agreement on April 2 that raised hopes for achieving a comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30 and lifting of international economic sanctions on Iran.

Tehran-Moscow political relations would not be affected after the sanctions are lifted, however if Iran finds trade partners that supply the country goods with high quality and more suitable price than Russia the Islamic Republic would change the pivot, Amir Ahmadian said.

He further said that Iran would move towards the EU slightly, however will continue to cooperate with Russia in some fields such as aerospace technology and infrastructural economic fields in the post-sanctions period.

Lifting sanction would also provide Iran with an opportunity for attracting investment from western countries that are interested in participating in Iran 's energy projects, the expert added.

Iran has rich oil and gas resources but suffers lack of investment and technology in this area, Amir Ahmadian said.

He underlined that Russia will not help Iran in this issue due to concerns about its markets, while the country is also an energy supplier.

He argued that in the post-sanctions period the western countries would supply Tehran with the technology and assets, which can be sparse in Moscow.

Iran is keen to participate in the EU gas market and the Islamic Republic's presence in the Southern Gas Corridor project may be raised again, Amir Ahmadian said.

The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) is a term used to describe planned infrastructure projects aimed at improving the security and diversity of the EU's energy supply by bringing natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe.
