While there is concern inside Iran that some imported goods, especially from China, are not of high quality, Member of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce Mehdi Zohrevandi has said Iran has implemented policies to check the quality of imported goods.

"You know that China exports to the entire world, Iran included. If sanctions are removed and doors opened, European-made products are of higher quality," he said.

Under current circumstances, the availability of Chinese goods and their low prices come as positive points to these goods, he said.

Zohrevandi went on to say that not all Chinese goods are of low quality. "Many of the goods that some of our tradesmen import are of high qualities while there are many tradesmen who import low-quality goods," he noted.

The official said that Iran can optimize its import from China if there are good measures to control the quality of the goods.

"Since two years ago, all goods coming to the country are demanded to acquire quality check from the source country. We check the goods before they are shipped. They will be imported if they meet the international and Iranian standards. This is meant to be continued. We have good regulations and the executive bodies should pay attention," he asserted.

Last fiscal year, Iran-China trade turnover hit $52 billion, which is expected to surpass $55 billion this year (Iranian fiscal year from March 21, 2015 to March 20, 2016).
