Iran and Oman have re-launched their direct shipping line after a 10-year cessation.
A shipping route between Iran 's southern port of Shahid Rajaee and the Omani port city of Sohar has been established.
The new line will decrease the shipping costs between the two countries by 40 percent, Mehdi Noferesti, an official with the Iran 's ports and maritime organization said, the country's official IRIB news agency reported May 14.
Three vessels, including two container ships with capacity of 100 containers and a bulk carrier with capacity of 3000 metric tons will make trips between Iran and Oman every 15 days, Noferesti said.
Abdolhossein Khedri, the CEO of Khedri Jahan Darya Shipping company- the private Iranian company involved in the scheme- said that the container ships are capable of sailing from port to port within 36 hours.
The value of the annual trade between Iran and Oman is believed to stand at above $890 million. The two countries plan to increase the figure to as much as $3 billion within the next three years.
