The Tehran-Shomal freeway's part four will go on stream this summer, Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhondi said.

Reporting his visit to the road under construction last week, Akhondi also hoped that part one of the freeway will go on stream by the end of the next Iranian fiscal year (March 2017).

He said that the ministry in cooperation with the Mostazafan Foundation of Islamic Revolution will fund the four parts of the freeway, Iran's IRNA news agency reported June 6.

The Mostazafan foundation was a war veteran service organization which is now engaged in numerous economic projects.

An early May report said a Chinese company had restarted work to build the Tehran-Shomal freeway.

The company, which had begun the work a couple of years ago, had stopped the work due to lack of funds.

Tehran-Shomal freeway is among the top priorities of Iran's Roads and Urban Development ministry.

Several contractors, including Bonyad, Khatam-ol-Anbia headquarters, and Chinese firms, have signed agreements to carry out the project over the years, but little progress was made.
