Tehran, Iran, June 8

Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said the Oil Ministry is the only entity to sell Iran's oil and other organizations will no longer do so.

Jahangiri made the remarks speaking in a ceremony to launch major refinery projects in Asaluhey, southern Iran, Fars news agency reported June 8.

Formerly other people would sell the oil, but now only the Oil Ministry does the job and proper monitoring is conducted, he emphasized.

Reports say two years ago the Iranian Police sold worth $240 million oil as permitted by then president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and the revenue was not deposited with the Treasury.

There have been deviations in Police Cooperative Foundation affiliates, which the security units last year reported to the contemporary chief of police, Police spokesman Brigadier General Said Montazer ol-Mahdi told reporters June 7.

The deviations have been confirmed and there have been crimes, therefore the then commander personally pursued the case and referred it to the judiciary, Montazer ol-Mahdi said.

The spokesman went on to say that a number of people have been arrested relating the case and the case is open and undergoing legal procedures.

In a report on May 29, the news website Kalameh said Moqaddam had himself been accused of corruption and once held in prison for at least two days.
